As the clouds gather around the Sydney Cricket Ground

In Feb this year, I had the opportunity to watch the 2nd Final of the CB Series between England & Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). England famously won the tri-series by trouncing Australia 2-0 in the best of 2 finals. Loved the game, the crowd and the atmosphere. Even now I remember the days way back in 1985 when I used to wake up at 5am to watch India play in the One Series in Australia and how much I wanted to watch a cricket match at the SCG & MCG even then

My Zooomr wishlist

November 18th, 2006

I have been using Zooomr for a couple of months now and thanks to the good folks there (Kristopher Tate , Thomas Hawk & others), I was first upgraded to a Pro account for free and then Pro4Life (wow … how cool is that)

Today, I chanced upon the Official Zooomr blog to see Kristopher’s post & video on Zooomr Mark III, their upcoming new release. I wish them good luck and hope Zooomr becomes ‘THE BEST’ photosharing site in the world with features all of us love, want & use. Given below are a couple of thoughts on what they can do to make me happy !

Edit items as a batch – useful when you have done a bulk upload using jUploader and then want to edit the Title, Tags etc. The feature to edit these in jUploader is very smartly hidden and can be discovered only by chance !!!

Photoblog view – I love Zooomr and want to use this as a Photoblog. While the features of Trackbacks & Comments are great, I want a simpler & neater template that can have a large image (a la a typical photoblog). Sadly, while there are so many photo sharing sites around in cyberspace, there really isnt any that can can suit the needs of an avid photoblogger (the accent is on showcasing work and narrating tales about pictures & not typical photo sharing)

Flickr importer – I have tons of pics on my Flickr account which I would love to move over to Zooomr. Some simple way of automating this (using Flickr APIs) would be cool

An evening at the Cricket ground

I went to the ICC Champions Trophy Cricket match between New Zealand and South Africa at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai yesterday. A relatively low scoring game, it still had its interesting moments with Stephen Fleming & Kyle Mills taking the honors along with Jacob Oram. New Zealand very effectively defended a lowish total of 195 to dismiss the promising South Africans for a paltry 105

The Flower picker

Flower Picker

It is not very often that I manage to shoot candid people shots like this one, of a flower picker in Matheran. He was deeply engrossed in his work and didn’t notice, neither did he care for the snap that I took of him. Hope I can get over my mental block of taking shots of people and manage more like this

A friend & I happened to land up at Matheran (which is approx 2 odd hours from Mumbai). This is a sweet little place where automobiles are not allowed and thus gives the air about a rather fresh feel. Walking around may get a lil tiring, but then if you prefer, you can choose to ride around in a horse there

Canon EOS 400D ?

August 24th, 2006

So, this has taken much longer that I expected. The announcement of the next Canon DSLR model as a reply to Nikon’s launch of the 10 megapixel D80

As the site says, these are still rumours, but, I guess it is now about time that Canon launched a new DSLR in this range. And again, rather rightly so, one wonders as to what happens to the Canon EOS 30D if this new one launches. The Canon EOS 350D / Rebel XT is mean machine (though a bit small & light to handle) and would meet the needs of any advanced amateur. What is required is a pro-quality body of the sort that 30D has. So, this is all getting very muddy indeed !

From Gizmodo, here’s the feature set :

  • 10.1 effective Megapixels
  • APS-C size 22.2 x 14.8 mm CMOS image sensor
  • Focal length of 1.6x
  • Dust removal system
  • 3 frames per second – maximum of 27 JPEG or 10 RAW
  • 9-point auto focus system
  • 2.5-inc LCD monitor

Let’s see what works for me …
10 Megapixels … well, not so kicked
Dust removal system … mmmm, lets see …
3 fps … I dont shot Sports
9 point AF … looks good
2.4 inch LCD … pretty good

So, in pure photography terms, there isn’t much for me in the supposed feature set of 400D. Also, there is no mention of the body

And, by the way, here’s another rumour on the 400D … this one has a built in cellphone !!!

Zooomr is a photo hosting / sharing tool that I came across a moment ago. Apparently these folks are giving away their Pro-accounts for Bloggers … trying to get mine :-)
