As the clouds gather around the Sydney Cricket Ground

Menacing rain clouds gatherMenacing rain clouds gather Hosted on Zooomr

In Feb this year, I had the opportunity to watch the 2nd Final of the CB Series between England & Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). England famously won the tri-series by trouncing Australia 2-0 in the best of 2 finals. Loved the game, the crowd and the atmosphere. Even now I remember the days way back in 1985 when I used to wake up at 5am to watch India play in the One Series in Australia and how much I wanted to watch a cricket match at the SCG & MCG even then

Potential disaster – Tendulkar to be back as Indian Cricket Captain !

March 25th, 2007

After the debacle in the World cup, there is going to be a witch hunt, the most unfortunate consequence of this could be that Tendulkar is made the captain by his kowtowing supporters. Nothing is going to be more disastrous for Indian Cricket, this man doesn’t deserve a place in the team on current form. Please, save Indian cricket ! Havn’t we all seen his pathetic & selfish performances for the past few years ? have we not had enough of him ? Why are the selectors ignoring Saurav Ganguly’s strong return to the team ?

Zimbabwe Vs Ireland – A wild last over

March 17th, 2007

So, we all know that the ICC Cricket World Cup game between Zimbabwe & Ireland was tied and perhaps nothing much beyond it. Ireland was making its world cup debut and Zimbabwe … well I wonder why they are still paying International cricket, they need to sort their house in order first

Anyways, the purpose of the post is to showcase the fantastic final over of the match (AR White of Ireland bowling to Matsikinyeri and Rainsford of Zimbabwe). This had it all to make a classic climax … 2 dropped catches, 1 missed run out and the stupidest of slog and miss on the last ball. You should see the reaction of the crowds and the pavilion, so what if it is a game between the minnows, Cricket still keeps you all glued in

Kudos to Ireland, hope they can upset Pakistan today ;-) . Happy St Patrick’s day folks … help us celebrate with you by beating the Pakis

Gibbs smacks 6 Sixers in an over

March 17th, 2007

The ICC Cricket World Cup got well and truly underway yesterday with the game between South Africa and Netherlands. The highlight of course was Herschelle Gibbs world record 6 consecutive sixes in an over against the bowling of Van Bunge

Check the video out here

Here’s another Video of this effort and a Photo gallery here

The feat has been achieved for the first time in One day internationals. Gary Sobers and Ravi Shastri have ofcourse done this earlier in first class matches. To close out with a bit of trivia, 36 is NOT the record the highest number of runs in an over, quite astonishingly the number is 77. Read more about this bizarre over here
