Analyse this ?

November 19th, 2005

For all the folks out there who think Google can do no wrong …

Here is another sample of how they are screwing up big big time … has anyone realised that Google has NOT had a BIG success in the recent past with all the launches they have done (I can only think of Search, Search advertising and Maps as being success stories)

Waiting for data: hawkeye.weblogs.us
Analytics has been successfully installed and data is being gathered now. The demand for Google Analytics surpassed even our highest expectations and as a result some customers may temporarily experience report-update delays. All data continues to be collected and no data has been lost. We are currently adding resources to ensure high-quality service. We apologize for any inconvenience

Do we see their stock now coming back to realistic levels …. ?

My thoughts on the US of A

November 18th, 2005

Well, soon it would be 2 weeks that I have been in the US of A and this probably is a mighty good time to pen my thoughts and opinions on what I think of this place and the people here

The first thing that comes to my mind is the fact that the Public Transport system here is pathetic ! Sure, you have millions of Card on the road, but heh … not everyone has a Car and what out the innocent tourist like me who is here for a short while and hasn’t gathered enough guts to drive on these roads ! Screwed, that’s what we are … the Train system sucks and the Buses even worse. Left at the mercy of friends to give you a ride or to hire a bloody expensive Cab … man, Life without a Car here is tough :-(

And then there is this American penchant of being different, Drive on the Right side of the road (which is the wrong side when compared to the Commonwealth nations), Power switches upside down, Calculating distances in Miles, Temprarture in Farenheit and Weight in Pounds ! Excuse me folks … ever heard of the SI system ?

Why do these folks have to be different ? I quite dont get the point !

And then you have the accent … who on earth would want to pronounce VIA as “veeya” and not “Wya” the way it is done in the Queen’s english ? And what do these folks have againt the letter U ? color, favor etc etc … poor U ! Maybe in American english they only have 4 vowels ;-)

and on & on … a World series comprising of teams from various cities …. huh ! Football where you hardly ever kick the ball …

Man … these guys are real funny !

Heading to LA ?

November 15th, 2005

I have the Thanksgiving weekend available for myself to tour around the United States, after considering places like Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Las Vegas I think I’ll probably do Los Angeles. The place is not too far from San Jose and I should get some reasonable deals on the flights to there

I am expecting a couple of other friends to join to me there so should be a good time rockin’ around Hollywood and other places in LA

Any suggestions on places to see other and stuff like Airlines and Hotels is most welcome

Google Analytics – Does this work ?

November 14th, 2005

Not so long ago, Google bought over a web analytics company called Urchin, now they have been relaunched as Google Analytics

Google Analytics – Features

Learn how visitors interact with your website and identify the navigational bottlenecks that keep them from completing your conversion goals. Find out how profitable your keywords are across search engines and campaigns. Pinpoint where your best customers come from and which markets are most profitable to you. Google Analytics gives you this and more through easy-to-understand visually enhanced reports

As with anything else Google, I just went ahead and tried to sign-up for it, but as with some of the things google oflate (a la Gmail, Web Accelerator, Reader etc), the bloody service was down !!!

Currently Undergoing Maintenance

Google Analytics reporting is currently undergoing maintenance and will be available shortly. Your site traffic is being logged and you will be able to see the data after system maintenance has concluded.

Phooey … Manitanence, folks … you guys just launched this thing. Grow up Google … and till thne dont waste my time !

Drooling at the Apple Store

November 14th, 2005

Landed up at the Westfield Valley Fair shopping area in Stevens Creek Buolevard in San Jose today and chanced upon the Apple store their

Touched and felt and heard the new 30 / 60 gig Video Ipod, man this one does look very sleek and cool and for the first time in my life actually used the Apple Macs

These are real Hotties, Apple is way way ahead of Microsoft when it comes to Coolness and usability of the Operating system. Am totally impressed

Thinking about the Ipod, its kind of dumb that Apple doesnt produce the non-Video Ipods anymore, sorta like thrusting this new down my throat. All I want it a simple MP3 player which can hold about 40 gigs of songs, I dont need any Video playing ability, but no … I cant get that :-( which I though was pretty lame

Am still considering the 30 gig Video Ipod very actively and yet the thing that holds me back is that in Rupee terms this does add up to quite a lot and I wonder whether I would use it all that much. I would probably need to buy a set of compatible speakers for it so that I can use it as a music player for home, which then again means more spending

Smart blokes these Apple guys are, they have invented by sheer genius of a thought an entire industry that sells hardware for one time money and then makes recurring revenues on songs thru Itunes and then there is an entire ancillary industry built around the Ipod in the form of accessories and now they invent newer things to sell to their users in the form of Music videos and TV shows etc

wow ! cool deal. This should be making it to Marketing case studies in B-Schools very soon !!!
